Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
On Friday 15th July we are taking our Year 5 children on an educational trip to Chester Zoo. This is part of our Rainforest topic which we will be studying next half term.
Due to the long journey time, we will require children to be in school for 8.20 a.m. that morning in order to leave on time. We will return to school for 3.30 p.m. Please note this is 30 minutes later than school normally finishes.
The children must wear school uniform and bring a packed lunch in a plastic bag. Children who are entitled to free school meals will be provided with a school packed lunch. For safety reasons children should NOT bring cameras or mobile phones. They may bring a small amount of money for the gift shop if they wish to, but no more than £5.
We have to tell you that, under the school’s charging policy agreed by the governors . . . “no one will be discriminated against on the grounds of inability to pay. However, voluntary contributions will be invited and should these be insufficient then the activity would not take place.” A copy of the policy is available from school. If payment is a problem please see Mr. Richardson.
To cover the cost of the trip we are asking you to make a donation of £15. School has subsidised this trip also. Please send your donation, together with the slip below, into school in a sealed envelope with your child’s name clearly marked by Friday 10th June. To help towards the cost please feel free to pay the donation in smaller amounts up to this date.
We are pleased to inform you that DVD’s of the Year 3 and 4 concert are now available at a cost of £2 per copy.
If you would like to purchase a copy please complete and return the order form below together with your payment.
On the week beginning Monday 25th April, we intend to have a teddy bear’s picnic on St Andrew’s Field. The actual day will depend on the weather.
The children will make their own sandwiches, biscuits and drinks for the picnic in school time.
They will play games, listen to stories and sing songs. If your child has a teddy bear, could you please label it and send it into school on Monday 25th April, so that they can take it on the picnic with them and use it in lessons during the week.
Thanks for your support.
Tickets for the Year 3 & 4 Spring Concert will be on sale from the School Office on Wednesday, 30th March. Any tickets not sold by Monday, 4th April will be given out on a first come first served basis to those families requiring extra tickets.
The price of tickets are £2 per adult and £1 for children (who MUST be accompanied by an adult). Due to the number of children involved in the concert we must limit the allocation to 2 tickets per family to give every parent a chance to see their child perform.
We can now confirm that the booking and deposit has been paid for our residential trip to Robin Wood’s Dobroyd Castle in Todmorden. The trip will take place on Wendesday 30th March for two nights, and we will return to school at approximately 3:00pm on Friday 1st April.
The meeting for parents and carers will be on Wednesday 2nd March in the Key Stafe 1 hall in our school. It will begin at 3:15pm and will last approximately 30 minutes. It is very important at least one parent or carer attends the meeting as you will be informed of all the activities, arrangements and the equipment needed for the trip.
You may be aware that some changes are taking place this year with regards to the Year 6 SATs. The changes include the tests that pupils will sit during SATs week and the way in which their results will be reported.
We would like to invite you to an Open afternoon to provide you with more information about these changes.
It will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your child’s upcoming SATs.
We will host this Open Afternoon on Thursday 25th February. Please indicate below which session you would like to attend.
A new National Curriculum is now being taught right across school. The new curriculum is more challenging and sets high expectations which all schools have had to work hard to meet since the beginning of last year.
Next Friday Class 5-1 will be visiting Sir John Thursby for a taster session to see what high school is really like! They will leave school at 9.00am and return to school by 2.00pm. The children will be walking to Sir John Thursby so please make sure they are wearing a jacket and sensible shoes. They will need a packed lunch with them but if they usually have a school lunch, this will be provided.
The children and teachers in Years 5 and 6 would like to invite you to our Parents Workshop on Wednesday 25th November from 1.30pm – 2.45pm. This is an opportunity for you to see how you can help your child learn at home. You can watch the children and the teachers working together in Reading, Writing and Maths. As always, the children are really keen to have family members in school and it will help you support your child’s learning at home.
We look forward to welcoming you!
As part of our ‘Victorian’ topic we are hoping to take our Year 5 children to Queen Street Mill on Wednesday 18th November. We will leave school at 9 a.m. promptly and will return to school at approximately 3.00 p.m. This is a brilliant opportunity to immerse the children in the fascinating topic of the Victorian era.
