Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) is Helen Mansfield. Mrs Mansfield works closely with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that children with SEND receive the support they need to achieve their potential.

The SENDCo regularly reviews the progress, attainment and wellbeing of all pupils. Any concerns regarding a child's learning, communication, social, emotional or physical development may be identified through ongoing assessment, discussions with class teachers, observations, parental concerns or information from previous settings.

Where a child is identified as requiring additional support, we follow a graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do and Review. Support is tailored to individual needs and may include adaptations to classroom teaching, targeted interventions, small-group work or personalised provision. Our aim is always to enable children to access a broad and balanced curriculum alongside their peers wherever possible.

All staff receive regular professional development relating to SEND and inclusion. Additional specialist training is undertaken as required to meet the needs of individual pupils, including training relating to communication and interaction needs, autism, speech and language development, social, emotional and mental health needs, medical conditions, sensory impairments and specific learning difficulties.

Our skilled team of teachers and teaching assistants work closely with children requiring additional support. We also work in partnership with a range of external agencies, including Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health Services, Specialist Teaching Services and Children's Services, where appropriate.

Every class is supported by teaching assistants and we have dedicated pastoral and family support available to help children and families overcome barriers to learning. We also provide enhanced provision and targeted support for pupils whose needs require additional intervention.

Introducing Neu Way Support

Families across Lancashire and South Cumbria are now able to access earlier support for children and young people with neurodevelopmental needs.    ‌

The service, Neu Way Support, offers personalised advice, guidance and practical help based on need rather than diagnosis for families who are navigating concerns about autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences.

The service has been commissioned by Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) and will be delivered by Spring North in partnership with local community organisations that are specialists in supporting children, young people and families.
